    To meet the new challenges facing sports and recreation in the 21st Century, it is necessary for physical educators, club managers, and sports professionals to keep abreast with the present development in their profession so that they are capable to overcome these challenges.  A series of Sports Management Seminars, organized by the Hong Kong Olympic Academy and the Indiana University, conducted by experienced lecturers will comprise of 3 modules, the first of which will be launched in February.  The followings are the details of the seminars: -

    Lecturer 1: Sports Psychology
    The contents of this lecture will include: sources of stress and anxiety; methods in stress management; defining flow-state; integrating practices to produce flow-state; and holistic practice of psychological well-being in sport performance.

    Lecture 2: Sports Injury
    To discuss the prevention and management of common sports injuries, such as knee pain, back pain, tennis elbow and shoulder pain. Initial management of acute musculoskeletal injuries; and self-treatment of chronic pain such as low back pain, knee pain with techniques in soft-tissue release, exercise, mobilization, and strapping will be demonstrated. This lecture aims at providing a practical knowledge in sports injuries management.

    Lecture 3: Sports Nutrition
    The aim of this lecture is to provide the participants with up-to-date information for understanding the interactions between nutrition and exercise. The lecture will examine the role of nutrition for health and sports performance. Contents will include factors influencing sports performance, food intake and energy balance during rest, exercise and recovery; fluid balance and ergogenic aids. Emphasis will be placed on the application of such knowledge upon the improvement of exercise performance.

    Lecture 4: Sports Biomechanics
    The purpose of this lecture is to introduce the principle of biomechanics and the application of biomechanics in sports. The methods and equipment used for sports technique diagnosis will be introduced. Factors that are affecting sport technique and the way to improve the sport performance using biomechanics methods will also be introduced. The biomechanical equipment employed in the unit including motion analysis system, EMG system and force platform system with practical demonstration and application in sports performance at the Human Performance Laboratory, Hong Kong Institute of Education.

    Lecture 5: High Altitude Sports Training
    This lecture is to introduce the simulation altitude training, include the history and evolution of simulation altitude training in sports: Why we need altitude training, IOC with two variety EPO (ERYTHROPOETIN). How dissimilarity effect with get on plateau and simulation altitude. Kinds of simulation altitude training appliances of the world. Steering ¡§sleep high and train low¡¨. Health and safety issues of low oxygen and carbon dioxide specific gravity / density. Simulation altitude training be related applications.

    Lecture 6: Doping and Sports
    Drug use is a major problem in the world of athletic competition. The lecture will address up to date problems with drugs, the definition of doping, types of doping method and substances. Practical information on sample collection, laboratory procedures, result management, sanction and appeals will be given. Public education, legal and moral aspects of the problem will also be discussed. The intended audiences are coaches, trainers, athletes, managers and administrators.

    Lecture 7: Sports Physiology
    This lecture will discuss the inter-relationship and application of the three energy systems (ATP-CP system; Glycolytic system, and Oxidative system) and human performance. Demonstration in Maximal Oxygen Uptake with identification of anaerobic threshold (AT) and lactate threshold (LT) will be conducted at the Human Performance Laboratory, Hong Kong Institute of Education.

    <OLYMPISM PROMOTION SCHEME-YOUTH SESSION 2003>


    "Olympism Promotion Scheme - Youth Session 2003"Prize Presentation and Closing Ceremony

    "Olympism Promotion Scheme - Youth Session 2003", organized by the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China and co-organized by the Hong Kong Baptist University, had come to an end after two weeks¡¦ activities. The Prize Presentation and Closing Ceremonies were held on 8 August 2003 and 15 August 2003 respectively.

    Around 200 secondary school students ranging from Form 1 to Form 4 were attracted by the two-week summer camp. Based on their ages, the Federation had divided them into two groups: -

    Camp 1: Form1 to Form 2 (from 4 to 8 August 2003)
    Camp 2: Form 3 to Form 4 (from 11 to 15 August 2003)

    Each participant was required to pay only HK$500 to join this meaningful camp for 5 days. During the camp, the Federation had organized sports training sessions, educational activities, competitions and games for them. The aim of this Camp was to enhance the youths¡¦ understanding on ¡§Olympic Movement¡¨ to dovetail with the 2004 Athens Olympic Games. The Federation had awarded certificates to those participants who had attained 80 % attendance rate.

    During the camp, participants were divided into five colors groups representing 5 continents. Through various competitions and games, participants had built up team spirit and experienced the unifying spirit of Olympic.

    There were four sports sessions for participants to choose: swimming, basketball, table tennis and Wushu. For the educational sessions, the Federation had arranged lectures on the history and development of Olympic Games; broadcasted Olympic-related movie; introduced the new emblem of 2008 Beijing Olympic Games; as well as organized a sharing session between participants and Hong Kong elite athletes. The Federation was honoured to invite CHOI Fong Yue (Basketball), TAM Wai Yeung (Basketball), TSAI Hiu Wai Sherry (Swimming), CHAN Yiu Bun (Swimming), WONG Hoi Wun (Swimming), LI Fai (Wushu) and WONG Ching (Table Tennis) to attend the Camp and share their sports experience with the participants.

    By the end of the Camps, a ¡§Continental Mini-Olympic Games¡¨ were held in the Main Hall of Wai Hang Sports Centre at the Hong Kong Baptist University. Participants had stroked their best to get the ¡§Continental Awards¡¨.

    Apart from the ¡§Continental Awards¡¨, each continental group was required to give a presentation to compete for the ¡§Continental Cultural Awards¡¨. During the Closing Ceremony, ¡§Cheerleading Awards¡¨, ¡§Outstanding Athlete Awards¡¨, ¡§Sportsmanship Awards¡¨ were also presented.
